On Tuesday, our Board voted unanimously to name the new Crisis Stabilization Unit in Simi Valley in honor of former Supervisor Bob Huber—a well-deserved recognition of his decades of service and leadership in our community.
This six-bed facility, set to open in 2027, will expand access to urgent mental health care for residents in East Ventura County—providing a safe, supportive alternative to emergency rooms or incarceration for those experiencing a crisis.
Bob Huber understood that strong communities are built by caring for those most in need. I had the privilege of serving alongside him, and I saw firsthand his deep commitment to expanding access to mental health care and critical support services. His leadership helped secure the funding that made this facility possible, and his impact will continue to be felt for years to come.
Naming this unit in his honor reflects both his vision and his lasting legacy—one that will continue to provide care and support when it matters most.

This week, the Board of Supervisors presented a proclamation recognizing April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Ventura County.

With over 40 partner agencies under one roof, individuals can receive support—including free counseling and advocacy—whether or not a report has been made.
24/7 confidential support is also available through the Coalition for Family Harmony hotline: (800) 300-2181.

After losing their home in the Mountain Fire, the Naim family is the first to return home. “What we went through was incredibly difficult, and there were moments when it felt overwhelming,” said Hatim Naim. “Recovering from something as life changing as losing everything in a wildfire isn’t something you can do alone. Today, we didn’t just open a building—we opened a door to safety, support, and a path forward.
The grand opening of the Ventura County Family Justice Center Domestic Violence Shelter reflects our County’s commitment to removing barriers and ensuring survivors of domestic violence have access to the care and resources they need.
With three Family Justice Centers serving our community—including the Carmen Ramirez Center in Oxnard, the Ventura site, and the soon-to-open East County location—we are strengthening a network of support to serve victims and help break the cycle of violence through ongoing family support.
This is our County’s strategic plan in action—advancing community safety, lifting up those who need support most, and doing so with thoughtful stewardship of public and federal resources. If you need help please know we are here for you. @the.vcfjc @venturacountyda fjc.venturacounty.gov
